With a very light crowd in the morning, the crew and other anglers fishing aboard the Lady K made sure the kids had a great time reeling in some big fish along with plenty of Rainbow Runners and Bonito. The morning was quite beautiful with a cooler than normal north breeze, flat seas and plenty of sunshine.  Everyone enjoyed another day aboard the Lady K and would like to give a special thanks to Dick for helping out with kids!

The Santaluces High School culinary class chartered the Lady K for their field trip, teaching the students how to catch fish, properly gut and ice down the fish for transportation. They will learn how to properly fillet the fish in preparation for cooking and I’m sure the Chef will have a few tasty recipes up his sleeve for the nice Cobia they caught. The crew of the Lady K hopes everyone has a safe summer and looks forward to next year. Great job class!

 It was a rainy morning but the seas were fairly calm and the fish big. Students caught King Mackerel over the 20 pound mark along with a Black-fin Tuna that weighed in at 31 pounds – the classes biggest fish to date.

 Thank you Ms. Basso and Mr. Drummond for choosing the Lady K to meet the needs for your classes field trips and we look forward to more great adventures in the 2011-2012 school year. Everyone have a fun and safe summer!

 Some of the students from Crestwood Middle school display their catches of Mutton snapper, Kingfish, Gray Triggerfish, Porgy and a Pomfret which were taken while fishing triple hooked sardines during a chilly December morning field trip. Some students also caught and released Atlantic Sharpnose Sharks up to three feet long while also having a chance to witness a free-swimming Sailfish as it cruised past the bow during their offshore excursion.

 The Pomfret is a very unusual catch aboard the Lady K. The fish can be caught during the months of December and January by anglers using sardines or small jigs tipped with squid. The Pomfret has bright silvery sides when first taken from the water and are good table fare.

 Some of the 6th grade students from Crestwood Middle School display the fish they caught during a field trip aboard the Lady K. The young anglers caught fished with both sardine rigs and bottom rigs to land king mackerel, filefish, snapper, jacks and a host of other reef fish.

 Barjack Fishing promotes educational trips such as these for students in an attempt to promote catch and release fishing, the importance of persevering sea life and education of the vast aquatic ecosystems found along the Palm Beach county coastlines.

 Take a kid fishing today for memories that’ll last a lifetime. Remember that during the summer to bring plenty of sunblock and that the afternoon trips will be a lot cooler as we fish the shady side of the vessel.

The Lady K is a family experience and many times the kids make the excellent catch.
