VIP angler Matthew caught this nice 35 pound King Mackerel while fishing during one of the Lady K’s evening trips. The fish hit a sardine fished on a knocker rig and put up a great battle before it was gaffed by the crew. King mackerel have been caught by anglers fishing during any of the Lady K’s three daily trips.
This afternoon trip saw anglers battling Cobia, Mahi Mahi, King Mackerel, Mutton Snapper and False Albacore through the trip. Anglers also had the opportunity to witness Bull Sharks cruising just under the vessel as they chased baitfish. There was plenty of action with quite a few big fish being chased and even eaten by the sharks. First time anglers also saw Green turtles, Loggerhead turtles and a giant Leatherback turtle.
Cobia, like those pictured above, continue to be taken during any of the Lady K’s three daily trips. Fish up to 50 pounds have been caught during the first half of May and should continue to move through the area into June. Many anglers are having great success catching Cobia by using knocker rigs baited with either sardines or goggle-eyes and fished just under the boat or while spooling the bottom for snapper.
Sailfish continue to be spotted free jumping around the Lady K and a few releases of these beautiful acrobatic fish have been made by anglers fishing during the morning and afternoon trips. Letting out plenty of line is key to hooking big fish like this
Anglers fishing during breezy conditions with the right mixture of current, Sargasso weed and flying fish around the area may have the opportunity to hook and land Mahi Mahi like these during the late spring and early summer months. With the extended daylight on the Lady K’s 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm trips, late afternoon Mahi Mahi and sailfish are always a possibility.

Fishing on the evening trips have been productive for some anglers. The 17 pound Cubera Snapper pictured above inhaled a ballyhoo fished along the bottom while the King Mackerel pictured below choose a drifted sardine fished in the middle of the water column.
The afternoon trips have seen anglers taking some nice Cobia up to 48 pounds along with a mix of King Mackerel, Triggerfish, Snapper and the occasional Mahi Mahi.
Junior anglers have been having fun catching large fish like the Little Tunny pictured below. Children fishing with bottom rigs have been catching a wide variety of tropical reef fish, triggerfish, jacks, grunts, snapper, grouper and “hotdog” fish.

VIP anglers Rob (l) and Mark (r) display two nice Cobia caught during a very recent afternoon trip on the Lady K. Both fish slammed baits drifted just off the bottom. Although not very pretty by nature, these wonderful game fish make excellent table fare and can feed a small family for at least a week.
This beautiful Coney Grouper (aka Strawberry Grouper) was caught and released due to the annual Shallow Water Grouper closed season. Grouper season will reopen on May 1st so anglers will be able to take grouper again as long as they meet the state’s recreational size limits.
A member of the needlefish family, this Houndfish is just one of the many different fish species anglers may be able to catch during the spring and early summer migrations off the South Florida coastline. Houndfish can go up to six feet long and can be seen leaping across the surface of the ocean as they chase small baitfish.

April has brought some nice Mahi Mahi action to the Lady K along with King Mackerel, False Albacore, Snapper and Triggerfish. Dolphin up to 20 pounds have been taken along with plenty of schooling sized fish.
Mahi Mahi have been running through during the morning or afternoon trips and King Mackerel up to 45 pounds have been taken also. Anglers fishing drift rigs have been taken the larger fish while bottom anglers have been busy catching triggerfish and other reef fish.
An afternoon trip brought good luck to Richard and his daughter who caught these beautiful Cobia and a False Albacore while drifting dead sardines over the local reef ledges. Cobia to 60 pounds have been taken throughout April. May should be the peak month for Cobia catches off the southern Palm Beach reefs.
VIP angler Brandon caught this huge Great Barracuda while deep sea drift fishing off the Lady K during a morning trip. Also known as the Tiger of the Sea, these big gamefish put up a great battle with jumps and lighting fast runs.
Bull, Sandbar and Hammerhead sharks have also been caught and released by anglers fishing aboard the Lady K. Anglers have been witnessed Whale Sharks cruising by the Lady K during trips as well as catching smaller species such as Atlantic Sharpnose and Blacknose Sharks.

Cobia are beginning to show along the southern Palm Beach County reefs and wrecks. These fish can be taken on either a drift rig or a bottom rig like the pictured above. Cobia should start their migration throughout March, April and May.
Mahi Mahi have also been moving through the area like this 14 pounder Hernando caught while flat-lining a sardine during Friday’s morning trip. The spring months should brighten up as this colorful and acrobatic fish move through the area. Mahi Mahi can be caught while anglers fish a flat line (no weight), a knocker rig, or a drift rig. Ask your crew for some tips and pointers on the way out to help increase your chances in hooking one these fabulous gamefish.
Mutton snapper like the one Brandon (above) and Robbie (below) caught during an afternoon trip will also be moving in as they prepare for their spring time spawn. Anglers should try to reel these fish in fast for Bull Sharks will be eagerly awaiting to take any snapper for its own dinner.

Choppy conditions brought some nice King Mackerel and Mahi Mahi action to these lucky anglers who fished aboard the Lady K. The fish were caught just after a cool front passed through the area. The king mackerel were caught by anglers dropping their lines to the bottom while the mahi mahi took baits fished close to the boat or while being reeled in.
VIP anglers Lee (l) and Mark (r) display their Mahi Mahi caught during a breezy afternoon trip. Lee’s fish ate a sardine while drifting and Mark hooked his after seeing the fish swim up to the boat. A carefully placed bait can have a big reward for anglers who scan the water while drifting aboard the Lady K.
This 25 pound bull Mahi hit a drifted sardine during a mild winter afternoon. John left his rod in the rod holder and let the rocking motion of the boat jig his bait, leading to this beautiful fish. Anglers are also catching King Mackerel, Snapper, Grouper, False Albacore, Lesser Amberjacks, Gray Triggerfish and other species of reef fish. During this time of the year there are many mornings where visitors have an opportunity to see manatees as the Lady K makes her way to the Boynton Inlet and the fishing grounds.

Lady K VIP angler Rob (l) caught this large Great Barracuda on an ultra-light spinning outfit while fishing for Yellow-tail Snapper during an afternoon trip. Barracuda are a top predator and can be caught in shallow water as well as around wrecks, reefs and deep ledges. These large fish will eat just about anything and its not uncommon for anglers to watch as their king mackerel, snapper, grouper or bonito gets cut in half by the barracuda’s razor sharp teeth as their fish nears the boat. Barracuda can grow as large as six foot and weigh in at over 100 pounds, although the average fish will measure around 36 inches and weigh about 15 to 20 pounds. Nice work Rob, can’t wait to see what you catch on that jig in the upcoming year.
Fish and Wildlife biologist collect data after an extraordinary afternoon catch of 90 Gray Triggerfish caught by anglers fishing aboard the Lady K during the final week of November. Gray Triggerfish are excellent table fare and will give any angler a terrific battle on any size tackle. One of the most common ways of catching Triggerfish is by using a bottom rig baited with cut squid although fish in the 4 to 8 pound range will take whole sardines fished on drift rigs.
VIP angler Danny has been doing fairly well catching Mutton Snapper like the 11 pound fish he is displaying above. His equation for catching these large snapper is fairly easy, the longer the string, the bigger the thing. Mutton Snapper are commonly caught by anglers using drift rigs around the reefs and local wrecks but a fair number of the fish are also taken by anglers using bottom rigs. Other snapper species that have been taken by anglers fishing aboard the Lady K last week include Yellow-tail Snapper, Lane Snapper, Mangrove Snapper and Schoolmaster Snapper.
Mahi Mahi, also know as dolphin, have been taken anglers who are willing to fish during choppy conditions. A very common food fish, the Mahi Mahi can grow as large as 80 pounds and feed on anything, including small sea turtles and seahorses. One of the best bets for Mahi Mahi is by using a sardine on a weighed knocker rig or by “free-lining” a bait far from the boat.
Saturday’s afternoon trip started December off with Johnathan landing this 30 pound Amberjack he jigged up while vertical jigging aboard the Lady K over an area ledge off Boynton Beach. Other anglers caught Gray Triggerfish, Banded Rudderfish, Yellow-tail Snapper, False Albacore, Almaco Jacks and Red Grouper during the trip. Anglers found some nice Mahi Mahi action last week during the choppy ocean conditions and brisk northeast winds. Fish up to 18 pounds were being landed by anglers fishing either one ounce knocker rigs or free-lining whole sardines. Anglers fishing bottom rigs and cut squid have been landing Gray Triggerfish up to 7 pounds as well as Yellow-tail Snapper, Lane Snapper, Red Grouper and an occasional Cobia.
Black and Gag Grouper have been showing up along the reefs and have been hitting Thread-fin Herring spooled along the bottom. It is quite a battle to keep these heavyweights out of the reef and then a bit of luck to reel them in past the sharks, who love to dine on the snow-white meat, but the rewards of getting a beautiful fish into the boat is well worth the effort.
VIP angler Mark boated this nice fall Cobia while fishing aboard the Lady K during Monday’s afternoon trip. The fish ate a whole Thread-fin Herring fished on the bottom. Mark also had some nice Grouper action but lost out to the sharks. Anglers have been catching a large variety of fish this week including Yellow-tail Snapper to three pounds, False Albacore, jumbo sized Gray Triggerfish, Porgies, Red Grouper, small Sharks, Mangrove Snapper, King Mackerel and a host of colorful reef fish.

The end of October brought in some nice catches like this afternoon trip where anglers bagged Mutton Snapper, King Mackerel, Almaco Jacks, Cobia and other bottom fish. Fall fishing brings many different species of migrating fish through the home waters of the Lady K.
The first week of November brought in some really nice catches of Yellow-tail Snapper with more Mutton Snapper and Banded Rudderfish in the mix. The large Gray Triggerfish have also been showing up with some fish weighing up to seven pounds. There have also been some nice Porgies caught by anglers using bottom rigs baited with squid.
Mahi Mahi were being caught on Friday by anglers braving the choppy sea conditions, the perfect time for the migrating pelagic fish whose location is most often given away by the flocking sea birds. In addition to the Mahi Mahi catches, there have been some releases of Sailfish by some anglers while others continue to catch Cobia, Snapper, Triggerfish and other bottom fish.
