VIP angler Matthew caught this nice 35 pound King Mackerel while fishing during one of the Lady K’s evening trips. The fish hit a sardine fished on a knocker rig and put up a great battle before it was gaffed by the crew. King mackerel have been caught by anglers fishing during any of the Lady K’s three daily trips.
This afternoon trip saw anglers battling Cobia, Mahi Mahi, King Mackerel, Mutton Snapper and False Albacore through the trip. Anglers also had the opportunity to witness Bull Sharks cruising just under the vessel as they chased baitfish. There was plenty of action with quite a few big fish being chased and even eaten by the sharks. First time anglers also saw Green turtles, Loggerhead turtles and a giant Leatherback turtle.
Cobia, like those pictured above, continue to be taken during any of the Lady K’s three daily trips. Fish up to 50 pounds have been caught during the first half of May and should continue to move through the area into June. Many anglers are having great success catching Cobia by using knocker rigs baited with either sardines or goggle-eyes and fished just under the boat or while spooling the bottom for snapper.
Sailfish continue to be spotted free jumping around the Lady K and a few releases of these beautiful acrobatic fish have been made by anglers fishing during the morning and afternoon trips. Letting out plenty of line is key to hooking big fish like this
Anglers fishing during breezy conditions with the right mixture of current, Sargasso weed and flying fish around the area may have the opportunity to hook and land Mahi Mahi like these during the late spring and early summer months. With the extended daylight on the Lady K’s 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm trips, late afternoon Mahi Mahi and sailfish are always a possibility.

Fishing on the evening trips have been productive for some anglers. The 17 pound Cubera Snapper pictured above inhaled a ballyhoo fished along the bottom while the King Mackerel pictured below choose a drifted sardine fished in the middle of the water column.
The afternoon trips have seen anglers taking some nice Cobia up to 48 pounds along with a mix of King Mackerel, Triggerfish, Snapper and the occasional Mahi Mahi.
Junior anglers have been having fun catching large fish like the Little Tunny pictured below. Children fishing with bottom rigs have been catching a wide variety of tropical reef fish, triggerfish, jacks, grunts, snapper, grouper and “hotdog” fish.

VIP anglers Rob (l) and Mark (r) display two nice Cobia caught during a very recent afternoon trip on the Lady K. Both fish slammed baits drifted just off the bottom. Although not very pretty by nature, these wonderful game fish make excellent table fare and can feed a small family for at least a week.
This beautiful Coney Grouper (aka Strawberry Grouper) was caught and released due to the annual Shallow Water Grouper closed season. Grouper season will reopen on May 1st so anglers will be able to take grouper again as long as they meet the state’s recreational size limits.
A member of the needlefish family, this Houndfish is just one of the many different fish species anglers may be able to catch during the spring and early summer migrations off the South Florida coastline. Houndfish can go up to six feet long and can be seen leaping across the surface of the ocean as they chase small baitfish.

Lady K VIP angler Rob (l) caught this large Great Barracuda on an ultra-light spinning outfit while fishing for Yellow-tail Snapper during an afternoon trip. Barracuda are a top predator and can be caught in shallow water as well as around wrecks, reefs and deep ledges. These large fish will eat just about anything and its not uncommon for anglers to watch as their king mackerel, snapper, grouper or bonito gets cut in half by the barracuda’s razor sharp teeth as their fish nears the boat. Barracuda can grow as large as six foot and weigh in at over 100 pounds, although the average fish will measure around 36 inches and weigh about 15 to 20 pounds. Nice work Rob, can’t wait to see what you catch on that jig in the upcoming year.
Anglers found some nice Mahi Mahi action last week during the choppy ocean conditions and brisk northeast winds. Fish up to 18 pounds were being landed by anglers fishing either one ounce knocker rigs or free-lining whole sardines. Anglers fishing bottom rigs and cut squid have been landing Gray Triggerfish up to 7 pounds as well as Yellow-tail Snapper, Lane Snapper, Red Grouper and an occasional Cobia.
Black and Gag Grouper have been showing up along the reefs and have been hitting Thread-fin Herring spooled along the bottom. It is quite a battle to keep these heavyweights out of the reef and then a bit of luck to reel them in past the sharks, who love to dine on the snow-white meat, but the rewards of getting a beautiful fish into the boat is well worth the effort.
VIP angler Mark boated this nice fall Cobia while fishing aboard the Lady K during Monday’s afternoon trip. The fish ate a whole Thread-fin Herring fished on the bottom. Mark also had some nice Grouper action but lost out to the sharks. Anglers have been catching a large variety of fish this week including Yellow-tail Snapper to three pounds, False Albacore, jumbo sized Gray Triggerfish, Porgies, Red Grouper, small Sharks, Mangrove Snapper, King Mackerel and a host of colorful reef fish.

The end of October brought in some nice catches like this afternoon trip where anglers bagged Mutton Snapper, King Mackerel, Almaco Jacks, Cobia and other bottom fish. Fall fishing brings many different species of migrating fish through the home waters of the Lady K.
The first week of November brought in some really nice catches of Yellow-tail Snapper with more Mutton Snapper and Banded Rudderfish in the mix. The large Gray Triggerfish have also been showing up with some fish weighing up to seven pounds. There have also been some nice Porgies caught by anglers using bottom rigs baited with squid.
Mahi Mahi were being caught on Friday by anglers braving the choppy sea conditions, the perfect time for the migrating pelagic fish whose location is most often given away by the flocking sea birds. In addition to the Mahi Mahi catches, there have been some releases of Sailfish by some anglers while others continue to catch Cobia, Snapper, Triggerfish and other bottom fish.

A good morning trip on Tuesday with a catch of Yellow-tail Snapper, Mutton Snapper, Triggerfish, Barracuda and King Mackerel. Drifted sardines produced many nice Yellow-tails at or over the two pound mark using standard drift rigs. Anglers fishing with small jigs and squid also did their fair share of damage to the snapper. The trip ended with a beautiful Sailfish release.
Another fall cobia finds it way aboard the Lady K during Wednesday’s morning trip along with more Yellow-tail Snapper and a nice Red Grouper. Anglers fishing bottom rigs did an excellent job catching Porgies and some big Gray Triggerfish.
An afternoon catch included some nice Mutton Snapper action along with some King Mackerel, Yellow-tail Snapper, Almaco Jacks and Barracuda. Night time fishing has been producing snapper along with plenty of Ribbon fish and small sharks. September is the off season and a perfect time for anglers who appreciate light crowds with little to no tangling. So don’t delay and plan a trip today aboard the Lady K.
Brandon (r) caught his second Wahoo this week on a triple hooked drifted sardine. The fish was 56.5 inches and weighed in at 33 pounds. A second Wahoo was hooked at the same time but managed to shake the hooks free before coming up within gaffing range. Congratulations on your second Wahoo catch aboard the Lady K Brandon!
Night fishing has been producing King Mackerel and a few nice Mutton Snapper like the one captain James is displaying for one of the Lady K”s junior anglers.Smaller Lane and Mangrove have also been coming aboard by anglers using bottom rigs and cut squid or bonito for bait.

VIP angler John C. shows off a nice summer-time King Mackerel caught during one of this weeks afternoon trip. Along with the King Mackerel, other fish like the Bonito or False Albacore, have been keeping anglers busy along the rail during all three of the Lady K’s daily trips.
Lionfish, like the ones pictured above, are an invasive species to the reefs along the South Florida coast. These fish are also very venomous and should only be handled by the crew members on the Lady K, as well as all fish species.

John (l) and Mario (r) show off their Mutton Snappers caught during a recent night trip aboard the Lady K. The fish all ate sardines spooled along the bottom using a standard sliding sinker rig. The most unusual thing about all the muttons landed during the trip was the fact that they all had Brittle Starfish in their stomachs. One also had a baby octopus. Other anglers also caught Mangrove snapper, Lane snapper, Almaco Jacks and Jack Crevalle.
One of three nice Cobia that came up by anglers fishing for snapper aboard the Lady K during a warm morning trip. Other anglers had their hands full when the False Albacore (a.k.a. Bonito) would run through the lines. Bonito are excellent fighting fish giving even seasoned anglers a run for their money. Although not very popular as table fare such as the cobia, bonito do make excellent bait when filleted out and used as strips or chunks for trolling or bottom fishing.
