Matt (2nd from right) hooked and landed a beautiful 13 pound Red Grouper while bottom fishing and using a squid strip for bait. Other anglers took Mutton Snapper to 10 pounds along with King Mackerel, Porgies, Black-fin Tuna and a host of other reef fish during the morning trip. The afternoon trip brought back King Mackerel to 12 pounds, Gray Triggerfish and other reef fish.

Junior angler Dylan displays a big Mutton Snapper caught while spooling a thread-fin herring across the bottom. The best bet for a family with small children is to bottom fish using cut squid. Fishing in this manner will produce many different species of colorful reef fish (have a camera ready) as well as larger predators like Grouper, Snapper, Cobia, Amberjack and even Sailfish have been caught by anglers using bottom rigs aboard the Lady K.

Monday’s morning trip was overcast and breezy but produced this nice Mutton Snapper and King Mackerel. There were some small Red Grouper releases, a small Cobia release and False Albacore releases. The Lady K also promotes catch and release fishing, so should an angler not be interested in keeping their catch, please inform the crew so they can handle the fish as quickly as possible for a successful release.
