A first time catch to be proud of, a 34 pound Black-fin Tuna caught by one of the Lady K’s lady anglers during a recent afternoon trip. The month of May generally produces good numbers of Black-fin Tuna ranging from 25 to 40 pounds during both the afternoon and evening trips.

Cobia continue to take baits for anglers fishing for Snapper or King Mackerel. Cobia will average 20 to 40 pounds throughout May but can grow to over 100 pounds, making it important to allow these large fish to run off line when they want to.

Be part of the big fish bonanza aboard the Lady K. All three of our daily trips are producing quality fish keeping our crews busy both at the rail and at the cleaning table. Tight lines and good angling.

The Spotted Trunkfish is a rarely caught tropical reef fish. The Lady K may only catch several of these fish per year by anglers fishing bottom rigs and cut squid. The beautiful violet colors and turquoise to silverish spots, along with their unusual shape, make this fish an excellent candidate for a replica fish mount.

Just one wonderful trip out of many for Christmas week. This afternoon trip found anglers battling Mahi Mahi, King Mackerel and False Albacore – filling up every nail on the board. The King Mackerel have started showing up with anglers catching fish between 6 to 15 pounds during the morning and afternoon trips. The best way to catch the mackerel is by using a sardine rig and either leaving the rod in a rod holder or by slowly reeling the bait back to the vessel.

Stumpy the Pelican is back for another year! Stumpy has been visiting the Lady K every year for the past several years. He patiently waits on the rail for photo ops and a sardine or two. When you come out on the Lady K, keep an eye out on the stern rail as we head back to the dock and have your camera ready as Stumpy snatches a snack like the photo below……………

The Lady K will be in full operation for the rest of this year and throughout the New Year, including New Years Eve and New Years Day. We are looking forward to another great fishing season as 2011 opens new and exciting possibilities for rare or unusual sightings of marine life and more excellent catches of Cobia, Mahi Mahi, King Mackerel, Tuna, Snapper, Grouper, Sharks and much more……….. get hooked on a new adventure today – fishing aboard the Lady K!

Anglers fishing aboard the Lady K this week have kept their eyes open to the skies for Frigate birds and Seagulls as they worked schools of baitfish along the surface. Gamefish such as Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, King Mackerel and Bonito continue to push south with the birds marking the predators as they feed near the surface.

This Seagull (left) chases a Frigate bird after having its meal snatched away, putting on a beautiful aerial display for anglers fishing on the Lady K.

Under the birds young Casey found a child sized Mahi Mahi to bring home for dinner and did a wonderful job bringing the fish to the boat. The school of gamefish were no match for the anglers who fished during this trip as the photo below shows, including a nice King Mackerel.

This afternoon Mahi Mahi was taken at boat side by one of our VIP anglers, Lynn, who also caught some large Gray Triggerfish, Mutton snapper and Yellow-tail snapper to bring home for dinner. Great job!

Large Mutton Snapper like Bruce’s 8 1/2 pound fish caught off one of the areas local artificial reefs during a morning trip this week, can be caught while spooling the bottom with sardines. Feel free to ask one of the Lady K’s crew members how to “spool the bottom” for a chance to catch many different snapper species during your offshore adventure.

A Queen Triggerfish, one of our areas most beautiful ornamental reef fish, is quickly photographed before being released back into the Atlantic Ocean. Make sure you bring a camera to photograph many of the different reef fish that can be caught while using bottom or “guppy rigs” and cut squid. Bottom rigs can catch many different species of fish including Grunts, Porgies, Filefish, Triggerfish, Puffers, Grouper, Snapper, Jacks and even large gamefish such as Cobia, King Mackerel, Mahi Mahi and even small Sharks.
